HOW DOES RYAN’S NOTES SET PROPRIETARY PRICES?
Ryan’s Notes prices are set on Tuesdays and Fridays. After surveying consumers, traders and producers to find out whether they have bought or sold material that conforms to published price specifications, the editors determine a price range where the bulk of consumer spot business has been done.
WHERE ARE PRICES POSTED?
The price ranges are published weekly in the newsletter along with the week average (based on the low end of the price range unless otherwise specified), a moving four-week average and a moving six-week average (all based on the low unless otherwise specified). Price ranges also are posted on Ryan’s Notes Online on Tuesdays and Fridays. At the end of every month, monthly averages based on the low, mid-point and high of the twice-weekly proprietary prices are published.
How accurate are Ryan's Notes prices?
The best way to ensure price accuracy is to call many market makers. Ryan’s Notes editors spend much of their time on the phone verifying reports from buyers and sellers. To provide consistency, the same editor sets proprietary prices each week. The editors setting the prices have been involved in metals reporting for more than 40 years.
Can I be included in the twice-weekly survey?
If you purchase or sell any of the metals listed on the twice-weekly price page, we encourage you to contact the editors at Ryan’s Notes to report transactions. Any information supplied is considered confidential and used as a gauge.
IF I USE A RYAN’S NOTES PRICE IN A CONTRACT, HOW CAN I PROTECT AGAINST A GROUP OF SELLERS MANIPULATIING THE PRICE?
Nothing is fool-proof, but Ryan’s Notes provides moving four- and six-week averages to make manipulations more difficult to coordinate. Also, by verifying transactions with buyers, the likelihood of manipulation is held to a minimum.
WHY SHOULD I USE A RYAN’S NOTES PRICE RATHER THAN A PRICE FROM ANOTHER PUBLICATION?
Ryan’s Notes offers reliable and knowledgeable pricing set by the same experienced reporters week-in and week-out. Ryan’s Notes devotes extra time to calling as many sectors of the industry as possible before determining a price. Finally, Ryan’s Notes is a small organization that prides itself on being responsive to readers. If you have suggestions for improving a price, we want to hear your ideas and we will take action. We encourage you to compare our prices with your own transactions.
